Getting Connected to the Wireless Network

When you arrive on campus, you’re going to want to get your computer online as quickly as possible.  This is your checklist for a quick and hassle-free experience.

  • Make sure your computer includes an 802.11a, g or n wireless adapter.
    • If you purchased a Thinkpad through our partnership with GovConnection, skip this step.  Your computer includes a compatible adapter.
    • Most new notebook computers include wireless adapters.  However, many desktop computers do not. Ask your vendor to confirm that your model includes an 802.11a, g or 802.11n wireless adapter.
    •  If your computer does not have a compatible wireless adapter, you will need to purchase and install one or send your computer back to the vendor for an upgrade.  Our help desk is available to advise and assist you. *
  • Make sure your computer has current virus and malware scanning software installed.
  • Scan your computer for viruses and malware and remove any infections.
  • Download and install the latest critical operating system updates.

*Our help desk can provide telephone or email assistance.  The Campus Store stocks a number of compatible wireless adapter types.  On campus installation assistance is available at scheduled times, or by appointment.  For fastest connectivity and lowest cost, we recommend that students purchase computers with integrated wireless adapters.
