MSMC Legacy wireless issues
Posted by Greeney, John on 06 October 2020 12:47 PM

MSMC Legacy is a WPA2 PSK wireless SSID pervasive througout campus, with the exception of BDMS.  It is on both the 2.4 and 5.0 ghz bands, and designed for use with devices that can't support 802.1x fully, or devices that only have a 2.4ghz radio.  MSMC Secure only services the 5.0 ghz band. Users may experiences intermittent connection issues on the 2.4Ghz band due to the large amount of interference form microwaves, phones, game controllers, ANY hotspot wireless devices, such as printers, etc.

It uses the 208.138.60.x/22 Subnet. (same as wired RESNET)

Current Passcode as of Fall 2020: 7knai1jz

Scenario 1: User connects, but can't move data.  May pull down IP address. May not connect to Legacy at all.

1. Open your control panel
2. Go to Device manager
3. Expand the "network Adapters" tab
4. Select/highlight the Wireless network card
5. Right click and select "properties"
6. Go to Advanced tab.
7. Go to "channel width for 5Ghz", set the value to "20 mhz"
8. Go to "Channel width for 2.4 Ghz" set the value to "20 mhz"

9. IF you are still experiencing the issues after this, you can also try the following changes in this tab:(Try one at a time, and reconnect to network after each change to see if they help)
-802.11n/ac Wireless Mode , set to "802.11n"
-802.11a/b/g Wireless Mode , set to "5Ghz 802.11a"

(note, these are suggested changes, and I have not had the chance to test results in person on site)
