What is Gmail?
Gmail is Google’s web-based email program, which will replace the email program used by for student and adjunct faculty. Your email address will not change. Email addresses will be @my.msmc.edu, and not @gmail.com. You will have 25 GB inboxes! (You can store about 25,000,000 average-sized e-mails in 25 GB.)
By partnering with Google, we are also using Google Apps for Education which includes a number of additional collaborative applications.
Gmail is replacing the current student and adjunct faculty email program. The old program was obsolete. Gmail is part of the Google Apps for Education program which offers a collaborative learning environment and a world of new technology.
Why do I need a college provided Google account when I already use Gmail?
Students: Your Gmail account will be the official college communication email address while you are at MSMC. It is also useful when you’re applying for your first job – you can use your university e-mail as a professional e-mail address. You can automatically forward your email messages to another account, if you prefer.
Adjuncts: Your Gmail account will be the official college communication email address while you are at MSMC. You can automatically forward your email messages to another account, if you prefer.
Faculty: Your Gmail account was created for your convenience. Once you see what your students are doing in Google Apps, you may want to collaborate with them. Your Outlook account remains your official college communication email address. If you decide to use Gmail, you can automatically forward your messages to your Outlook account, if you prefer.
