Important Virus and Operating System Update Notice
All computers connecting to the Wireless Academic Network are rguired to have all current operating system and application software security patches applied, as well as a virus scanner with current virus definitions. The college scans all computers upon Wireless Academic Network registration and periodically during the year, and may without Wireless Academic Network without warning disconnect any computers found not to be in compliance. These requirements are to protect the Wireless Academic Network, the MSMC community, and the individual computer owner from harm caused by known malicious virus and worm programs currently in the wild.
Most popular Windows compatible PCs purchased within the last three years should be able to install Microsoft service packs and critical updates without difficulty. Students are encouraged to contact their computer dealer/manufacturer or check Microsoft's support site for compatibility issues before installing the above, especially if they own older or off-brand PCs.
The College is NOT responsible for PCs that will not boot, or PCs that malflmction after Microsoft updates or service packs are applied. This is true even if the College provides guidance or assistance in installing updates and service packs.
Students who experience problems after installing Microsoft updates or service packs should contact their computer dealer or Microsoft.
If students still cannot resolve the problem AFTER contacting their computer dealer/manufacturer and Microsoft, the College may, at its discretion, provide additional guidance or assistance, if and when resources are available.
Since Microsoft developed software updates are beyond our control, the College in no way guarantees that any PC will be compatible with current and future Microsoft service packs and updates and is not responsible for any damages that result from their application.
